About Us

Marty Braunstein began his automotive career as the sales Manager of Robert Green Chevrolet in 1973, where he put his prior career experience as an educational administrator to work by helping to build the largest retail dealership in the area at that time. After 16 years of working for the Greens, Marty decided to put his reputation and talent to work for himself and decided to stay here in Sullivan County to do it. He and his wife, Marcia, purchased their 1st dealership in May of 1989 from the Steinberg family, owners of then Gerow Ford Lincoln Mercury in Liberty. They named the dealership M&M (for Marty and Marcia) and began an immediate and complete transformation of the automotive landscape over the course of just weeks. What was once a sleepy, small town dealership that closed early and on weekends so that the owner could play golf, turned instantly into a dealership interested in servicing and selling to not only all the people of Sullivan County but to a host of second home owners and referrals from the New York City Market. With ties to Long Island and the Metro Area, Marty began his climb to be one of the largest Ford Lincoln Mercury dealers ever in the area.

Shortly after his 1st few months of business, his son Howard, who had recently graduated from Cornell University, decided to enter into the business with his father and join in the building of their business.

Over the 1st two years, the dealership grew in size and employees, selling more vehicles in as month than the store had sold in half a year with the prior owners.

Shortly before the summer of 2001, the dealership next door to M&M Ford, Mountain Pontiac Buick Cadillac Jeep Eagle was having difficulties and Marty and the owner agreed on a sale of the business in July. On July 11th, M&M Automotive Center opened next door to M&M Ford and Howard moved across the street to take over as the General Manager of that dealership, under the close watch of Marty, who remained at the Ford Store.

The success of the Braunsteins 2nd dealership was similar to the first and although some changes occurred in the product lineup over the first few years (the Eagle Brand terminated), M&M Automotive Center had become another major player in the Sullivan County automotive Market.

The dealership, under the direct management of Marty and Howard continued its successes over most of the 90’s and in 1997, Marty was able to complete the purchase of the Chrysler and Dodge franchises from North Main Dodge, a dealership that existed on the other side of town since the 40’s.

For the last 10 years, the M&M Auto Group, as it now known, has been the leading retailer of Ford Lincoln Mercury Chrysler Dodge Jeep Pontiac Buick and Cadillac vehicles in the area. With several renovation projects along Mill Street in Liberty including the latest, a new 18000 square foot Chrysler showroom, M&M Auto group has worked hard to keep their dealership organization looking and performing at its best. With 47 employees, the M&M Auto Group sells over 1200 new and used vehicles a year, which is more vehicles than most dealerships sell in markets with ten times the population base. They have done this by offering competitive pricing and service that is ranked among the highest of any dealers in the area and by consistently remaining active in the community and supporting many local charities and organizations.

In January of 2008, Marty decided it was time to spend a little more time with his wife of 48 years and sold the dealerships to his son Howard. He plans to remain active for many years to come but looks forward to a lifestyle where the daily responsibilities of the dealership can be handled as he enjoys himself and pursues his many interests and spending additional time with his family.

Howard, who has spent the last 18 years under the wing of his father and managing the dealership along with him looks forward to continuing the successes that his father and he built together and is looking forward to adding another dimension to an already successful business. With the addition of several key personnel and his wife Donna to help manage the organization, Howard is known as a manager and a dealer that everyone enjoys and trusts doing business with.

This year, the M&M Auto Group was awarded the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year Award for their dedication to the community and their success as a business in the County and the Hudson Valley Area.
